If You Can't Stand The Heat....

......you don't have to stay out of the desert.  But, extreme caution and extensive preparation are necessary.

Most people shake their heads when I tell them that I explore the Mojave Desert all year round.  Naturally, the extreme heat is the issue.

Let me start by stating that I assume no responsibility for anyone who reads my posts and then hurts him/herself, or others.....

To be continued.

Seeing what I want to see...

Off in the distance, I sometimes see what appear to be man-made structures.  Only upon looking through my binoculars, do I save myself a time-consuming detour off the trail, only to find that the "structure" is just a natural rock-formation.

Motoring into Mule Canyon.

It's 3:30 PM, and the temperature has peaked at 99 degrees.  I am alone with my Jeep, my six gallons of water, and my camera.

I've yet to see another vehicle.  The only sounds are the jet aircraft thundering above the clouds and the light breeze tickling my neck.

El Paso Mountains 5/18/13 off-road trip..

If the reader looks closely at the center of the photograph, he or she can see tiny figures.  Those people have just walked all the way through Burro-Schmidt Tunnel, in the El Paso Mountains.

Afton Canyon off-road trip 5/31/2013.

My friend Ron and I were eating our lunches under this trestle, when a train passed overhead.  If you look closely, you can see some of the railroad ties bending under the load.
