Mail For The Vanished...

This building once served as the post office at Bonanza Gulch, in the El Paso Mountains.  Although mining activity in this area dates back to the 19th century, this structure was likely built during the Great Depression.

Contrast In The Desert...

El Paso Mountains.

Does this image speak to you?  To me, it represents the contrast between the harsh, barren environment and the fact that life perseveres here.  From the smallest plants and insects, to the forgotten caves where prospectors once  searched for their fortunes, the desert has stories that will never be told.

Mormon Rocks...

Drone flight over the Mormon Rocks.

This rock formation is located in the Cajon Pass.  Ex-members of the Mormon Battalion were supposed to have camped here, while on their way to San Bernardino in 1851.

Bickel Camp...

                                                         Little brother and big brother.

I took this photo at Bickel Camp, which was prospector Walt Bickel's home for many years.  The machine on the right is an air compressor that is mounted on an automobile chassis.

Here's a link to an earlier article that I wrote on Walt Bickel:  https://www.blogger.com/u/1/blog/post/edit/3377803806107825582/4636876805898717780
