Cajon Pass...

Today, we take the ribbon of blacktop that winds through the Cajon Pass for granted.  As our cars, trucks, and SUV’s downshift to keep pace as the 15 Freeway ascends to the summit; how many of us give thought to the struggles of those who once trod through this rugged country via horse, mule, or wagon?  Or with Camels?

The toll road was intended to address the difficulties associated with travel through the Cajon Pass.

The Cajon Pass...

A former pack trail, then a toll road dating back to 1861, and now an off-road trail in the Cajon Pass.

One of my second homes...

...is Joshua Tree National Park.  So, about two weeks ago I stayed at the park into the evening for some night photography work.

The rock formation shown in this photo is... wait for it....Skull Rock!

I shot this image using a 3-second exposure at f/3.5.  The ISO was set at 25600.  In addition, my wife was shining a flashlight on the rock formation.
