Mining Ruins: Benson Camp...

Ruins of Benson Camp.
El Paso Mountains.
May, 2018.

I've tried to research the history of this camp, but the most that I can come up with is that Benson himself was one of several prospectors who worked the area during the late 1800's.  Does anyone have any information, that he or she would like to share?

  1. I don't think that is a mine; I think it's a well. I believe it was called Benson Well. Later they drilled for water about 50' away. The water from this well was pumped to the Yellow Aster Mill to process ore, about 10 miles away. It was called the Goler Pump Station. There is a photo of the old water pump in the 2nd edition of "Exploring the Ghost Town Desert" by Roberta Martin Starry. The wooden calf wheel for the pump was about 10'+ in diameter and still sits on it's side at the location. You can usually get the book I mentioned used on Amazon. They have a little bit about the station in it. Make sure it is the second edition.
